The Mom Song for the First Day of School
Today is the last day of summer vacation for Emily… and us. (sniff, sniff!)
This summer flew by way to fast. It seems like we really just did finish up the last day of the school year and poof! we’re back to starting a new school year.
Where did the last three months go?
The weather here was definitely not summer weather. Most days, it was cloudy and barely got up over 75. That was nice for not having to turn on the air conditioning, but not so nice for running under sprinklers.
This Time Last Year
Last year at this time, there was a ’4- Sale’ sign on our front lawn.
We were making final preparations to leave our house, we were packing boxes, and were so excited about making our move to Colorado Springs.
Finally! We were going to be living in the place that we’ve been dreaming about going to since we were married. Emily was excited about her new school, taking trips up to the mountains and going for hikes in Garden of the Gods.
Trek Factory Tour and Other Cool Stuff
The Trek factor tour we took today was a lot of fun! Doug’s sister, Lynn, her husband, Kevin and their boys are in town, so today we took a little road trip down to Whitewater, WI, where Trek is located.
I’ve been living in Wisconsin for nearly 5 years and I can’t believe this is the first time we’ve gone. It’s only about a 40 minute drive from our house and I had heard it was a really cool place to visit, yet wasn’t sure what to expect… after all, this is where Lance Armstrong’s bikes are made, as well as all of the Team US Postal and Team Discovery Channel for the Tour de France.
Reflecting on the Last Month
While I’m sitting here typing out my thoughts on my reflections of the last month, I sometimes stumble to find the right words.
July was busy in our house. Early in the month, Sean came home on a 4 day pass and then Matt was here for 4 days last week. As much as I would love for them to come up together, I’d be asking for a miracle. After all, it is the Army.
The last time all 5 of us were together was in mid-May of 2008 for Matt’s ROTC commissioning ceremony from Xavier University. I have no idea when all 5 of us will be together again, most likely not until they get back next year.
