I completely agree! My husband and I watched the live streaming video, online, from the courtroom yesterday. It was interesting listening to the judge. I couldn't get a feel for how he was going to go on it. As you've probably read from this post, my daughter and I drove past the scene last year as it was unfolding. Like you, every time I drive by there, I am reminded of that horrific day. There were so many events over the years that, if things were done as they should have been, Mark Benson would never have been on the road that day. I think that alone still proves that Wisconsin laws on this issue need total reform. Wisconsin lawmakers need to get a backbone and finally do what is right and what should have been done a long time ago. Mark Benson is just one person. What happened to the Bukosky's was not fair & it never should have happened. I remember seeing the Bukosky family at a local grocery store not long before the accident- I recognized Michael as a classmate of mine from an algebra class at Waukesha North, he & his family looked so happy just shopping together. What a terrible waste to have so many lives taken & the ones left behind ruined. When I heard of this tragedy & how preventable it was I was outraged & saddened. I hope that the family of Jennifer Bukosky can now try to heal & try to find some peace despite their overwhelming loss. Patty,

As we come close to the one year mark I cannot say that things have gotten easier. Especially now since the decision by Judge Mac Davis has reopened many wounds. I do know that Jenn, Sophie, and Courtney did not die in vain. There have been some promising signs of change to come with Wisconsins DWI laws. This tragedy has really brought our flawed DWI laws to light. Jenn's parents Paul and Judy, have made it thier mission to change these laws so no other family has to endure what we have. As others, I cannot believe that this man is free for now. I feel like it is completely disrespectful to Jenn, Sophie, and Courtney and he should not be able to embrace his family until the time comes that I can embrace mine! The laws need to change and the person responsible should stay in jail. A family member teaches school at the same school as Jennifer did and attended the funeral and tried to comfort the kids.
