My Shuffle Took a Bath

ipodshuffleYes, you read that right.

Last Friday night, we were outside watching the kids play in the yard. Doug walked out and said, “Look what I found” and opened his hand.

I guess I must have had a really puzzled look on my face as there was my shuffle, so I’m thinking, “Yea, that’s my shuffle and…???”

Doug: “I found it in the wash”
Me: “Like the washing machine?”
Doug: “Yes”
Me: “Oh, sh__t. Did it go through the dryer, too?”
Doug: “Yep”

How in the heck did that happen? The only thing I can think of is that morning, after my run, I guess I forgot to unclip it from my shirt and when I tossed the shirt in the laundry, the shuffle went with it.

Now, I know Apple makes a top-quality product. However, I don’t think they had this in mind. I honestly thought it was a done deal, but figured, what have I got to lose.

I got the charger, plugged the shuffle into the laptop and would have never believed it if I didn’t see it with my own eyes.

The yellow light appeared on the shuffle, iTunes loaded and right there on the screen it said, “Synching Patty’s iPod, Do Not Remove”.

Are you kidding me? It had gone through a complete cycle of the washing machine AND a hot clothes dryer.

Well, within a couple of hours, it was charged, and now the real test… will it play?

I plugged in my ear-buds, turned it on and didn’t expect to hear a thing. If anything, I expected maybe a lot of static or some garbled music.

Nope. I turned it on and there was Phil Collins, loud and clear!

Now, don’t go tossing your iPod in the laundry, however, this is a story I will definitely be writing to Apple about.
