This Early Bird is Yawning
Yet with a couple of cups of coffee, I just may stay awake!
One of my ideas for this year is to get a jump on the day. You, know the ‘early bird catches the worm.’
My reasons are two-fold.
First, and most important, I want Emily’s morning time in getting ready for school to be undivided attention in enjoying that part of the morning. She needs to be up no later than 6:50 a.m. The typical morning routine is getting breakfast, making her lunch, making the beds, etc.
The start of the day is usually how the tone is set for the rest of the day, so I want that time in the morning to be relaxed and fun.
My other reason is because there is very little quiet time in which I can, well.. have just some basic quiet time. Whether it be to write blog posts, send cards, things like that. I’m usually up around 6:15, and with Emily having to get up at 6:50, that left very little time for me to get any work done.
Otherwise, by the time we get back from dropping her off at school, it’s nearly 8:30 before I can dig into the day.
So this week, I decided trying something new.
Yesterday and today, the alarm went off at 5:30 and yes, I managed to get up, although knowing there was a big cup of coffee waiting certainly helped!
I figured this would give me a good hour and 20 minutes before Emily has to get up.
Now, I know you may be thinking that 5:30 a.m. isn’t that early, and really, it isn’t. I know a lot of people get up earlier than that. My dad used to be up at 4 a.m. and out the door by 5:00. Of course, he was fast asleep by 8:00 that night, but that’s a story for another day.
Important Productive Time
How I spend this hour and 20 minutes is what’s important, though. If it’s spent surfing the internet, going through email or things like that, then I might as well go back to sleeping in until 6:15. I have this new found time that needs to be used wisely.
One of the keys to being a successful work at home family is finding that balance between work and family-time. Lost family time is something we never get back.
Yes, this early bird is yawning, but hopefully not for long.
Question of the Day: What time do you get up to start your day and have you rearranged your schedule to find any quiet, productive time?
